Customizable virtual private network service with QoS

چکیده
In this paper, we propose and implementVirtual Network Service (VNS), a value-added network service for deploying virtual private networks (VPN) in a managed wide area IP network. The key feature of VNS is its capability of providing a customer with a VPN that is customizable with management capabilities and performance properties comparable to a dedicated physical network. In addition, VNS ensures con dentiality of data and principals through the use of IPSEC. The main technique underlying VNS is the virtualization of routers in both control and data planes. Virtualization of the control plane enables customizable routing and signaling per VPN. On the data plane, packet forwarding and link bandwidth are virtualized. Virtualization of the forwarding mechanism on the data plane enables routing of tra c according to each VPN's topology and policies. Virtualization of the link bandwidth enables each VPN to have guaranteed QoS and customized resource management policies. We have developed a VNS prototype for deployment on the CAIRN network. The VNS prototype implements several resource management mechanisms including packet scheduling, signaling and runtime monitoring. A graphical user interface enables service providers to manage, con gure and deploy VPNs remotely.

Quality of Service (QoS) Signaling in a Nested Virtual Private Network
Some networks require communication between an interior and exterior portion of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or through a concatenation of such networks resulting in a nested VPN, but have sensitivities about what information is communicated across the boundary, especially while providing quality of service to communications with different precedence. This note seeks to outline the issues an...
متن کاملA Generic Service Model for QoS Management Service Management in Next Generation Network
We introduce a generic service model aiming at ensuring Quality of Service management. This modelling approach has been proposed by the Next Generation Network and Service Management project. A fairly high integration level of the tools has been reached using object-oriented paradigm and Model Driven Interoperability approach. We provide an example of Quality of Service management through a Ser...
متن کاملQoS for MPLS-based Virtual Private Networks
Rapid growth of Internet traffic and the corresponding migration of real time and multimedia services towards IP, requires the introduction of technologies able to provide users with Quality of Service (QoS) and network operators with more dynamic and flexible resource utilization. In order to deal with the performance optimization in operational networks, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) ...
متن کاملSatellite and next generation networks: proposal for QoS architectures
Broadband satellite systems will need specific functions and interfaces in order to fit seamlessly into an endto-end Next Generation Network (NGN) Quality of Service (QoS) architecture. This paper will define NGN overall architecture, showing how the coupling between Application/session layers and Network/transport layers can achieve end-to-end QoS support. Possible integration scenarios of sat...
متن کاملWhat is a VPN - Part II
In Part I we introduced a working definition of the term "Virtual Private Network" (VPN), and discussed the motivations behind the adoption of such networks. We outlined a framework for describing the various forms of VPNs, and then examined numerous network-layer VPN structures, in particular, that of controlled route leakage and tunnelling techniques. We begin Part II with examining other net...
